Brainsway Deep TMS Therapy Specialist in Olympia, WA
Brainsway Deep TMS Therapy is a non-invasive brain stimulation technique that uses magnetic fields to target specific areas of the brain. It has been shown to be effective in treating conditions such as depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and anxiety. The therapy involves wearing a helmet containing magnetic coils that deliver focused pulses to the targeted brain region. This stimulation can help to regulate brain activity and improve symptoms. Our team provides Brainsway Deep TMS Therapy at Three Points Healing Wellness Clinic. For more information, contact us or book an appointment. We are conveniently located at 3435 Martin Way East. At Three Points Healing, we’re committed to offering the most innovative, non-invasive medical treatments to help our patients achieve better mental health. We’re excited to introduce the BrainsWay Deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (dTMS) technology into our range of treatment options. Developed by BrainsWay Ltd., a global leader in advanced noninvasive neurostimulation treatments, dTMS is primarily used for depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).
The uniqueness of this technology lies in its patented H-coil design, which allows the stimulation of deeper brain structures up to 6 cm, compared to the conventional transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) treatments that only reach 1.5 cm into the brain. These targeted magnetic pulses are similar to those used in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machines.
The procedure is performed at our facility, with a helmet containing the H-coil placed on the patient’s head. The magnetic fields created by the coil enter the skull and stimulate targeted brain cells, promoting neuroplastic changes and thereby improving symptoms of the disorder.
BrainsWay dTMS is a non-invasive procedure requiring no hospitalization or anesthesia, with minimal side effects. It is conducted in outpatient settings, typically in 20-minute sessions over four to six weeks. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the United States has authorized it for the treatment of OCD and depression.
In addition to treating depression and OCD, BrainsWay dTMS has also shown potential in treating a wide range of neurological and psychiatric conditions, including schizophrenia, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), chronic pain, Parkinson’s disease, and Alzheimer’s disease.
At Three Points Healing, we understand that every patient is unique, and the treatment’s efficacy can differ. That’s why we recommend discussing this option with our healthcare providers to determine if BrainsWay dTMS is the best course of action for you.
Deep TMS, is a revolutionary treatment method that addresses numerous neurological and psychiatric disorders, including depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), anxiety disorders, and chronic pain conditions.
One of the key benefits of Deep TMS aligns with our commitment to safety and accessibility. Unlike invasive procedures, dTMS requires no surgery or implantation. Each session takes about 20 minutes, allowing patients to continue their regular activities immediately after treatment. It’s a great option for people who can’t afford to take time off from work or other obligations because of its convenience.
Deep TMS is generally well-tolerated by patients, with mild headaches or scalp discomfort at the treatment site being the most common side effects. This is a stark contrast to other depression treatments like electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), which require anesthesia and have a higher risk of side effects.
Deep TMS also aligns with our integrative approach to treatment. It can be utilized in addition to other types of therapy, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) or medication, enhancing their effectiveness.
At our practice, a typical BrainsWay TMS treatment course involves 3-6 weeks of daily sessions, each lasting around 20 minutes. We’ve found that a longer treatment duration and higher frequency of sessions can enhance the likelihood of a positive outcome.
We understand that the severity and duration of symptoms can greatly impact the success rate of treatment. For major depressive disorders, clinical trials have shown that 30% of patients experienced significant improvement, while 32% achieved full remission of their depressive symptoms. These results are particularly notable as these patients had previously not responded to medications or other treatments.
BrainsWay TMS has shown to be more effective for individuals with mild to moderate depression than those with severe or treatment-resistant depression. In the case of obsessive-compulsive disorder, studies have demonstrated that half of the patients undergoing BrainsWay treatment experienced a high response rate, and about three-quarters of these patients maintained this response for a month post-treatment.
We recognize that every patient is unique. Some individuals respond more favorably to TMS than others due to factors such as genetics, brain chemistry, and cognitive functioning. These can all influence the likelihood of a successful outcome.
Overall, the success rate of BrainsWay TMS is estimated to be around 50–80%. These estimates are based on clinical research findings, and individual results may vary.
BrainsWay dTMS is a non-invasive method for treating a variety of mental health conditions, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), major depressive disorder (MDD), and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). This therapy is particularly useful for those patients who have not found significant relief from traditional treatments like antidepressant medications, psychotherapy, or electroconvulsive therapy (ECT).
In some cases, BrainsWay dTMS therapy can also be a great substitute for people who are unable to handle the adverse effects of antidepressant medications, prefer a drug-free approach to treatment, or resist invasive procedures. However, to undergo this therapy, patients need to be physically healthy, as it requires regular sessions spanning over four to six weeks, typically five days a week.
While BrainsWay dTMS therapy can notably reduce symptoms in some patients, it does not cure depression, OCD, or PTSD. Therefore, it works best when used in conjunction with a thorough treatment program that can involve medicine and psychotherapy.
We ensure that our patients are suitable candidates for BrainsWay dTMS therapy. Individuals with active seizures, a history of epilepsy, or those with metal implants in their head or neck region are not ideal candidates. Pregnant women and individuals with severe cardiac or respiratory conditions may also not be eligible for this treatment.
Before initiating therapy, a comprehensive medical evaluation, including a psychological assessment, is crucial. This assessment considers the individual’s medical history, current symptoms, treatment history, and overall mental health status.
At Three Points Healing, we are committed to providing personalized and effective treatment plans for our patients. For more information, contact us or book an appointment.
